People from overseas are always
stunned how slow the dial-up connections in Fiji are.
While we are normally given 45kbps theoretical speed,
the actual throughput is much less.
Until two years ago, Fiji had only one ISP called
Connect.
Now a dozen of new companies are also nibbling at the
limited cake - I estimate a maximum of 100'000
prospective clients.
As a result prices have dropped, ADSL,
ISDL and even wireless connections have popped up.
We have come a long way since 1995, the
introduction of 'real' Internet access for anybody in Fiji.
