After
success in typography and packing equipment, the parent
company (Aerni-Leuch) started as an agent for a CAD (Easydraft)
package developed in USA. The company later decided to
form their own software company in the United States. A
new CAD (Visionael) product, written in C and running on
UNIX systems, was developed in USA. The company was
selling their software together with mini computers and
peripherals from Hewlett-Packard (HP9000 series), SUN,
DEC and others.
Visionael was
probably the most exiting product I ever had the
opportunity to market. It was indeed unfortunate that I had to
go to Fiji to help my brother there with his operations.

Nixdorf
was later acquired by Siemens and a new company called
Siemens-Nixdorf was formed. At that time Nixdorf sold
PC's, POS cash register system, mini, super-minis, and
PCM systems in the IBM 43xx range. The majority of my
customers (Region Bern, Biel, Fribourg) had models of
the family 8870 together with modules of the COMET TOP
software family; one company had a 8890 (similar to IBM
4381) mixed with Nixdorf and IBM peripherals, running
German PPS software under DOS/VSE; and some enterprises
were working with 8812 POS-systems or 8810 Personal
Computers. I was given the task of selling software
packages for General Ledger, Debtors, Creditors,
Payroll, Inventory, Purchasing, Order Management, CAD,
Production Planning (PPS), and tailor-made applications.
Earlier on the I was tasked with the
inception of a Customer Support & Service Centre for
mainframe computer clients, installing new software,
fine-tuning of installations and performing release
migrations.

hardware under BS1000 operating system. The training
included internal and external courses for program
design (Nassi/Shneiderman, decision tables, Jackson) and
operating system. Furthermore I had the opportunity to
