hq1.jpg (59010 bytes)hq2.jpg (23989 bytes) HQ Multimedia Handels AG was a trading company specialized in import and sales of multimedia products. It was selling a wide range of products, e.g. DVI (Intel's Digital Video Interactive) add-on boards from Intel allowing to integrate audio/video signals into the PC, object-oriented programming languages and authoring tools to create multimedia solutions, CD-ROM drives, CD-I players from Philips etc. Furthermore, it organized training on multimedia fundamentals and all its products. The company belonged to a holding of 4 companies with approx. 50 employees. All are specialized in multimedia development and CBT projects. Among the customers were Swiss Bank Corporation, ASCOM, Ciba-Geigy and Rentenanstalt.

Intel's ActionMedia (DVI) board was used to play back full-screen digital video on a PC. Nowadays, we take MPEG playing for granted - at that time is was not possible with ordinary 80486 CPU's

Formerly specialized in implementation of office automation software solutions (All-in-1 from DEC, Alis from Applix, WordPerfect for VAX/VMS) and distribution of products from Clyde Digital (security software for VAX/VMS, user support & training software for VAX/VMS), it later started marketing PRIMAS (Print Management System). PRIMAS, a high-volume, high-quality printing and archiving software for mixed-hardware environments, based on OSI-standards, C, Oracle and DEC VAX-computers, has been developed by "Rentenanstalt", one of the larger insurance companies worldwide. ags1.jpg (63011 bytes)ags2.jpg (33621 bytes) After success in typography and packing equipment, the parent company (Aerni-Leuch) started as an agent for a CAD (Easydraft) package developed in USA. The company later decided to form their own software company in the United States. A new CAD (Visionael) product, written in C and running on UNIX systems, was developed in USA. The company was selling their software together with mini computers and peripherals from Hewlett-Packard (HP9000 series), SUN, DEC and others.

Visionael was probably the most exiting product I ever had the opportunity to market. It was indeed unfortunate that I had to go to Fiji to help my brother there with his operations.

nixdorf.jpg (133944 bytes) Nixdorf was later acquired by Siemens and a new company called Siemens-Nixdorf was formed. At that time Nixdorf sold PC's, POS cash register system, mini, super-minis, and PCM systems in the IBM 43xx range. The majority of my customers (Region Bern, Biel, Fribourg) had models of the family 8870 together with modules of the COMET TOP software family; one company had a 8890 (similar to IBM 4381) mixed with Nixdorf and IBM peripherals, running German PPS software under DOS/VSE; and some enterprises were working with 8812 POS-systems or 8810 Personal Computers. I was given the task of selling software packages for General Ledger, Debtors, Creditors, Payroll, Inventory, Purchasing, Order Management, CAD, Production Planning (PPS), and tailor-made applications.

Earlier on the I was tasked with the inception of a Customer Support & Service Centre for mainframe computer clients, installing new software, fine-tuning of installations and performing release migrations.

telekurs.jpg (143850 bytes) Telekurs was founded by all banks operating in Switzerland as a nation-wide computer service organization for software applications (e.g. Bancomat, Eurocheque, Eurocard, Swiss Interbank Clearing, Stock Exchange Geneva). My position was as a COBOL programmer working with Siemens 7.760 hardware under BS1000 operating system. The training included internal and external courses for program design (Nassi/Shneiderman, decision tables, Jackson) and operating system. Furthermore I had the opportunity to learn the basics of Tandem computers under Guardian operating system.

dam_awg.jpg (148496 bytes) Largest organization for rehabilitation of drug addicts. The flat-sharing community is the last phase and prepares ex-addicts for re-socialization. The so-called "Half-way House" was catering for up to 10 patients.

My duties included planning, conception and management of a transitional solution for former drug addicts; cooperation with external employers, authorities and other social institutions; conducting the problem-solving process and group discussions.
